J.Jerry's Daily Music Pick(s)

Motor - Klunk

GLENDALE, CA (YIFTM) - Okay, yeah. I caught hell yesterday for posting what I thought was a good review about the Laibach Let It Be album from allmusic.com. My point is this: If someone says exactly what you mean, why put it into your own words? (AKA I'm lazy and I don't want to write anything, where can I steal a review from?) The word stealing is misused here I feel, even though it's my decision to use the word. Borrow, pay homage to, advertise, these all work better. Anyway Motor. In WAVE 1 of Yeah, I Figured (a plethora of emails finalizing as 1 HUGE Word document; West Coast and Midwest Editions respectively) I picked this album as my semi-daily pick more than once. Today I'm picking it again. Late last year I made the tedious decision of claiming Klunk by Motor to be my favorite album of 2006, narrowly beating out So Divided by ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, which came in 2nd.

I can honestly say that no more than 3-4 days have gone by since the beginning of the new year when Klunk hasn't been in my car's stereo. The music? It's a cross between Industrial dance (EBM: Electronic Body Music; coined by Front 242, as I'm sure you already know), and what I’d imagine techno to be. (Why the hell doesn’t this guy know what techno sounds like?) I’m humoring you, I’m sure (“ For those of you into humor…” – Jeff Poronto). Simple, HEAVY, driving, brash beats. All programmed, with very few vocals. Traditional industrial style 5+ minute songs great for driving on the 5 or the 118. Focus tracks from Klunk are #’s 1, 2, 4, 7, & 10. My first “personal single” was Black Powder (track 1), and my second and current “personal single” is Killer (track 4). If you’re in the mood to fuck, sleep, eat, shit, drive, read, write, yell, or bleed, give your ears some Klunk.

They’ve got a new album coming out on the 26th of March called Unhuman, UK only apparently. Great, going to have to import that one.

Your review makes me long for the days of Allmusic.com.

Hey genius, can't see the motor album cover...not that I want to, but others might.

Gangsta Warner, never satisfied, always bitching. It keeps the Earth revolving around the big bright Mad Face in the sky.

Hey genius, as per our conversation through email yesterday and by phone today, I can't format shit from work. Try listening once and a while.

The photo appeared briefly, but has gone the way of the hot dog.

And I listen, I just don't care.

Nice, so the photo is heading to the Hall of Fame? Sweet!

Yes, but in a slow, drawn out, painful way...much like your writing style.

My writing style as well as your mother.

Thanks for the birthday gift! It's good music to dye your grey hair to or read in bed at 9:00. I am old.
