This Weeks 'Album of the Week'

Beastie Boys - Ill Communication

Ill Communication. This was the second Beastie Boys album I’d ever heard, and the one that launched me into a Beastie frenzy. This is also the album that got me into Richard Pryor (giving credit where credit is due). The Beasties sample Mr. Pryor on, Flute Loop I think, and after reading that in the credits, I purchased my first Richard Pryor album at the East Side Half Price Books. The rest is comedic gold history.

I can also attribute my record collecting, in part, to some of the vinyl referencing lyrics on this album.

Yeah, you can say I got pretty stupid over the Beastie Boys. I dig ‘em. They made some good music, and even though I’m not into them as much these days, it’s always fun to put on the Root Down EP and remember smoking cigarettes on Scott Holland’s farm on a dull weekend in Columbia County.
