All Bases Covered: A Thank You Note

Dear L. Lippy,

Thank you for sending me Covering the Bases by Bronson Arroyo. I did not realize I was missing out on note-for-note, word-for-word, voice-for-voice covers of grunge songs I have not heard in like 10-15 years, sung by the Cincinnati Reds No. 2 starter. But I was.

I hit play on the album this morning while I made coffee. I read the liner notes while I went No. 2. Right now I'm listening to No. 8 Plush. I have four more songs to get through before I take a shower. I'm gonna need that shower.

I totally forgot that Arroyo was on the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox. But then I saw his World Series ring prominently displayed on the front and back of the cd case. And then in the liner notes he thanked every Red Sox player ever. And then I heard track No. 12, "Dirty Water: Boston You're My Home." And then I remembered.

So again, thank you L. Lippy for sending me Covering the Bases. I know here at Y,IFTM we take untold delight in seeing our friends and fellow columnists suffer. You can sleep well tonight knowing I was in Hell for 53:17.

Go Crew!!!,
M. Mij

2 Thoughts:

I like to think Sheetsy puts this album on before starts vs. Arroyo, and dances around the clubhouse, playing air guitar and lip syncing to his teammates.

I would love to see
Covering the Bases as an album of the week selection the next time the Crew play the Reds (July 23-26), but I honestly cannot picture L. Lippy making it through 24 seconds of this album.
