A Saturday Night in Los Angeles Part VI

The Restaurant was good, like I want to see them again good. But the second act was the best I’ve seen in quite some time. Legendary Hip Hop pioneer Fat Lip, performing solo, took the stage accompanied by heavy audience praise. As anyone who’s had a conversation with me this week can tell you, Bizarre Ride II is my favorite all-time Hip Hop album, and Fat Lip being a leading factor for that album, as well as Labcabincalifornia, thought it would be a good idea to focus upon these 2 albums as the bulk of his material. The audience, myself included, was grateful he did.

Spitting out such classics as Ya Mama, Oh Shit!, Passin’ Me By, and I’m That Type of Nigga, I managed to find myself at home among a sea of strangers, Minh included.

As a 1 man Pharcyde reunion continued, a familiar face came on to offer his angelic soulful vocals. Sean Tillmann, aka Har Mar Superstar graced the stage to make a good thing even better. Belting out the combination of words usually reserved for Imani, Booty Brown, and Slim Kid 3, Har Mar Superstar gave a level of distinction to the Pharcyde only an over-weight Midwestern man can.

The crowd died down a bit after Fat Lip’s set. Har Mar came on, drunk off his ass, and really didn’t do a very good show. It was funny to see him really not give a shit (he figured he couldn’t top Fat Lip to why try). But for $5 a Har Mar show, not even to mention one that includes Fat Lip is, and will always be worth the trip.

Seeing both Har Mar and Fat Lip on stage together was indeed the highlight of the evening. Sorry to those hoping part 6 would be filled with sexual gossip in extreme detail. Although my eyes are filled with lust, my heart is filled with love, a love for a stoned out African American and an overweight drunk whitey.
