"That's The Way You Do It!"

“The little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that’s his own hair
The little faggot got his own jet airplane
The little faggot he’s a millionaire”

- Dire Straits, “Money For Nothing”

It seems that in recent years whenever the Dire Straits hit Money For Nothing is played on the radio, the second verse is cut from the song. Since I grew up listening to the unaltered version of Money For Nothing, the missing verse does not go unnoticed by me.

I can understand that in this age of “political correctness” a radio station may have reservations about airing a song with such content. However, it is my “humble” opinion that if this is the case, then the radio station should not bother airing the song at all.

Earlier this evening, when I was driving in my car, Money For Nothing came on the radio. As I listened to the intro, I was expecting to miss that second verse – again. I was surprised and ecstatic when that moment came and I realized that the song was being aired fully intact.

Kudos to WGLZ out of Wisconsin Rapids for having the balls to air Money For Nothing as it was intended.

I agree. Although said content may not be suitable for every audience, either play the piece of art as it was originally issued, or don't play it at all.

Are we going to cover up 1/3 of the Mona Lisa in the attempts to not offend anyone?

I was pissed when I bought a Ministry single and the hit, Jesus Built My Hotrod was cut down. I was pleased to find out that Ministry had titled this "altered" track, Short, Pusillanimous*, So They Can Fit More Commercials On the Radio Edit. *contemptibly timid BMI/ASCAP.

That made me smile.

I've yet to hear that one.

I think I've got it transcribed in an old issue of Guitar School, though.
