Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

Wanna get the shit scared out of you tonight, but at a relatively cheap cost? Look no further than your local video store and pick up Japanese director Takashi Miike's Audition.

What initially feels like a gentle drama about the tragedy of lost love, slowly evolves to a sitcom-like slapstick search for a new beginning. Then about an hour in, the film vomits out what seems like an endless gooey stream of some of the most fucked up shit I have ever seen. It's been said that this film's left turn probably generates the same kind of shock audiences in the 60's felt seeing Hitchcock's Psycho for the first time. Similarly, Audition is that kind of film where the less you know, the more you scream.

If the kind of trick or treats you crave this Halloween involve intense psychological mind fucks and alternative uses for piano string and acupuncture needles, look no further than this modern classic!
