Golden Age

On a recent trip out West visiting friends and family, I sidestepped it into Berkley's Amoeba Records. No premeditated purchases took place. Lots of impulse ones did. I swagged some real dope East Bay product...artists the Boulevard Hipsters down in SoCal would no doubt embrace. Among the finds, a compilation mix examining 10 years of Hip Hop, easily stands out.

Mixed by Paris/SF/Tokyo DJ Ameldabee, Anatomy of a Rap Crime perfectly bleeds essential cuts from 89 - 98 into one another forming a cohesive lyrical stream from a majority of the era's innovators.

Transcending artists such as Public Enemy, KRS-One, Dre and Snoop, Tribe, De La, Biggie, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang, Diddy, and The Fugees are all represented. Much respect is also given to period groups like Onyx, Souls of Mischief, The Pharcyde, and Lords of the Underground. The only glaring omission are the Beastie Boys...but really, everyone has more than enough Beastie Boys CDs.

So if you were around during this time and listened to Rap, definitely copp this record. It's a very inexpensive way to travel down memory lane. Amoeba's selling them for only $8.99! That's a steal. On-line mega-tailer, Amazon does not have it in stock, but go here for quick purchase: http://www.straightstreet.fr/dabee/anatomy/. This'd make a great stocking stuffer.

Equally memorializing as it is educating, Anatomy of a Rap Crime is a great tribute to the golden age of Hip Hop.

What was I doing during Hip Hop's golden age? Learning how to masturbate.

Nice write up. I'll keep my eye out for this one.

I copied a mash up a few months back by DJ Cody. Such tracks include: Metallica/Devo, Slayer/Run DMC, Ice Cube/Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden/Rakim. It's pretty decent overall. GDub would hate it.

CORRECTION: this is not a mash-up, just a straight mix. it's only a mash-up in that snippets of songs are combined to form the year/track number.

z-trip is a dope mash-up dj however...long before linkin park and jigga worked together. he mixed del and the empire march to great effect.

I dig the mash-ups.

That's how I feel.

be sure to burn z-trip's uneasy listening when you come out.

Cool. I may have a problem. My werk laptop doesn't have a FIREWIRE port. Does Mij's comp have it? I doubt your Dell has it (that's what I'm on now, a Dell).

SUCK!

Ask Mij. It's like a USB port but slightly larger. My dumbass forgot to check if the hard drive supports both this morning.

does it normally only come w/older computers cause my laptop is brand new. i'm the best.

JDot said...

No. I know it comes on all Macs. See if your computer has it.

I need it to access my external.

No problem, I won't.
