Movie poster artist John Alvin dies
The New York Times and Ain't It Cool News have posted warm tributes to John Alvin, who passed away last Wednesday from an apparent heart attack.
He was 59.
Alvin's name may not immediately spring to mind, but his images have resonated with moviegoers for decades.
Among his memorable contributions, his work for Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Walt Disney Pictures, really stands out.
Check out John Alvin Art, for a sampling.

Where did the Grease post go?
Grease post?
I commented that the post was borderline blasphmeous and that you might not be so quick to praise.
Now you see it, now you don't.
I don't believe it was ever posted. Is there a ghost on this site?
(Our first ever ghost post.)
Sightings, I'm sure, will begin popping up everywhere.
It was posted, then commented on (by me), then magically or superstitiously disappeared.
Maybe God got angry at His grease child and took away his post.
Now it is completely deleted.
Regardless, it was a funny post.
I would have liked to have read it, commented on it, called Grease to yell, then comment again on it.
Ghost post.
Maybe the Ghost Shark ate your post.
THE GHOST SHARK ATE YOUR POST!
Picture Elaine saying that.
Roy Scheider died also - another Spielberg connection - he was in Jaws.
Grease post was positing a second Great Flood due to snow melt in Midwest come Spring. With my being tested two times now with kitchen flooding due to washer-drain blockage I made the connection that I may be a new Noah which I'm told is blasphemous. Oh S*** - as I write this - that was Evan Almighty, right? Dumb - glad I deleted it. That movie must be pretty blasphemous. Just like The Santa Clause.
Do J. Dot or G. Dub have any Spielberg connections?
JDot used to work for Spielberg's company. He and Grease had a lunch meeting there one Friday afternoon.
