Pinpointing the Foundations of A Legacy
GLENDALE, CA (YIFTM) – Today is the 24th, and by now you know that we here at Yeah, I Figured celebrate our heroes every chance we get. If you need further clarification just count the number of Robert DeNiro and Rickey Henderson pics on the site.
I was a youngling at the age of 9 and the year was 1989. Having JUST started collecting baseball cards and with maybe 10 pack purchases under my belt, I began organizing my cards in alpha order. Not knowing anything about card conditions I spread them all out on the floor and I quickly noticed that 1 pile stood higher than all the rest. The pile, consisting of only 3 cards, was for someone I’d never heard of up to that point. His name was Rickey Henderson. After some Sports Center viewing and a little Beckett research I quickly learned that Mr. Henderson was a running machine. And for those who don’t know, I was a runner. And at the age of 9 I ran everywhere, and set a couple of grade school records in the 100-meter dash. So I felt I had a connection with Mr. Henderson, and unbeknownst to me that connection would, as of today, last over 18 years.
I’d hate to think what my life would have become if I’d had 3 John Kruk or Steve Sax cards. I can’t begin to tell you how much mileage I’ve gotten out of the Man of Steal.
GW, I’m sorry someone has to die over this article*, but today being the 24th and having told this story only 1 other time in my life, it seemed fitting.

Good post!
Thanks for commenting. I was getting worried.
I haven't decided yet, but I may post my own "Brown Mondays" moment.
Like your incident, it wasn't pretty.
My "Brown Mondays" moment doesn't involve shit though.
It's been 2.5 years or so. It was time.
My next article is called Pearly White Monday... ...Or the day I ____ my pants. The day Nat was at the UW.
Yeah, GW doesn't like to talk about that day.
