Senior Year: Part 1 “Getting Rid of a Gangsta”
GLENDALE, CA (YIFTM) – Over my extended absence from YITS I was fortunate enough to relive a trivial time in my life. In a conversation with Plover Boy I shared the ever elusive and always haunting chapter of my life improperly titled: Senior Year.
For those of you who were not Seniors at PHS in 1997, the following events that took place may be of some news to you. (Getting this far into the first article back from my 3-day hiatus, I’m slowly realizing that I don’t want to retell this story)
I was dating a girl; we’ll call her Carina. GW was dating a girl by the name of Vanessa and beatbox was dating Hannah. As anyone who’s ever stepped foot into the dank threshold of any of the countless schools across this unpurified nation, you’ll know of the ridiculous drama that lingers throughout the halls like bums fighting over a crumb crack.
This particular incident that caused over a year of silence between J.Jerry and both Gangsta Warner and beatbox can be traced back to 1 phone call. (Quick back-story: Vanessa and Hannah were friends and didn’t like Carina. Some shit was said and that was that) Standing in my parent’s garage I conjured up enough nerve to confront the Gangsta about what harsh and painful words he and his girlfriend were saying about my girlfriend Carina. In a phone call that would mark the last words spoken between J.Jerry and Gangsta during their high school careers, stubbornness and over protectiveness got the better of 2 close friends.
The very brief conversation went something like this:
“I understand that you don’t like her, but just stop talking shit about her.” J.Jerry
“I can’t do that.” Gangsta
And with a swift slamming of the phone I had lost one of my best friends. Scowls and direct avoidance followed throughout the rest of our Senior year and continued until the Gangsta and J.Jerry had the same Music Theory class at the local Technical College. In that year we were witness to the never aging phrase “Films of Scorsese (Music)”. But that story is for another time.
I see this article/post is exceeding in length and I haven’t even gotten to beatbox yet. That issue shall be my next post and titled Senior Year: Part 2 “Guilty by Association”

not how i remember it at all. any break-ups were caused by my inability to let go of past pains. Unfortunately Carina had become the scapegoat for a previous incident involving a direct attempt at ending the gangsta's manhood via a basketball.
I take the blame for sure, but to save face...the shit talking was amongst only myself and Vanessa. I felt it justifed, in hind sight a best friend's request and feelings should've superceded that of my own. I regret this happenend, but at least the girl's little brother got a Michael Jordan 45 jersey out of it. That's a positive!
You know what else is positive? YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE.
That's how I feel.
Well?!
You two do fight like lovers scorned.
