Local Man Undecided as to Which Writing Utensil to Use

GLENDALE, CA (YIFTM ) – This past week local banker and social recluse Herbert Douglas faced the biggest and most important decision of his 37 year old life; pen or pencil? On his usual afternoon lunch spent alone in his car to “get away from it all”, Herbert had a great idea for a movie but couldn’t decide whether to paint that thought with ink or lead. “I had a no. 2 retractable pencil in my car as well as a Bic Round Stic, and I just couldn’t decide which to use. If I misspelled Onward Demands of Injustice, that’s what I’m titling my story, I could erase if I used a pencil. But I like the statement a pen makes; bold, courageous and permanent.” Brimming with confidence from his sure to be blockbuster, Herbert chose the pen. “I had just come up with the next Gone With the Wind and I knew it. I grabbed my Whopper Jr. wrapper and gave birth to my wonderful idea.” Herbert invariably made the wrong decision. “Instead of Onward Demands of Injustice I wrote Onward Demands of Insulin. That’s cool too but it didn’t have the flare I was going for.”

After finishing his 4th Whopper Jr. Herbert clicked his retractable no. 2 into functioning order then proceeded to document his idea. “After I grabbed the pencil I knew right away it was the right utensil to use.”

Given such an important task, one wonders whether Herbert will make the same mistake twice. “If I’m sure of myself next time, yeah I’ll use a pen. It’s just a good thing I had multiple writing instruments to choose from.”

Fun. "Onward Demands of Insulin" could be a headline w/ diabetes continuing to be on the rise in this country.

There's a debate about continuing to teach penmanship in school - we write so much on keyboards now.

Huh - 37 years old is the number I always give when I complain about being old - it's the age Rob Schneider gives in a scene in Surf Ninjas.

I should have went with 38, the title of my favorite Revolting Cocks song.

Penmanship is great when you're on the go. You don't find a keyboard every time you want to jot down an idea or when you make out your grocery list.
