One for the Champ

CHATSWORTH, CA (YIFTM) – beatbox. Trustworthy, loyal, solid as a rock, intelligent, and realistically one I look up to the most. Thank God for Pardeeville, WI.

I can remember the first time I saw beatbox. It was the middle of the summer and we had baseball practice in Wyocena (the shit players didn’t even get to practice in their own home town). Dude showed up in full pinstripe uniform while the rest of us were reminiscing over what shorts Corri had worn the previous day. Yup, Corri!

Well I’m not sure if that moment is entirely real (although I can, if I had the skills, paint a picture of the entire scene, complete with beatbox ready for practice in our “soon to be” game jerseys).

I remember coming to terms with the fact (by word of beatbox) that Babe Ruth and Lou Gerhig didn’t get along. Years later in the same exact spot (at his parent’s house) I was witness to a 1991 Upper Deck baseball pack opening in which the Mij aka beatbox unveiled a Michael Jordan card (SP1 I believe) and proceeded to run throughout the house in complete excitement. Man I’m glad I remember that moment. A moment that eclipses the infamous “batting glove” incident, which apparently I’m still unable to get over.

I remember sitting in my parent’s basement eagerly trying to convince beatbox he didn’t need a 1990 Donruss Juan Gonzalez reverse negative card. I now own that card. I also remember riding my bike while chasing Marcy & Megan (mmm, Marcy & Megan) in a flirtatious gesture of excitement exclaiming, “That’s Matt’s bike! That’s Matt’s bike!” What a wannabe I was/still am.

I can, and should, contribute an entire week’s worth of moments praising and reminiscing on beatbox. He is truly one of the people whose opinion I cherish the most. He is a talented and thoughtful (perhaps too much for his own good) individual who will give you the shirt off his back (authentic Hardaway jersey included). A Hardy (J.J.) thanks to beatbox for putting up with my inevitable shit, and for giving me an example to strive for.

An article that is inevitably awaiting attention: Franklin St. Milwaukee, WI garage throw-down. (2 stories of the account, 3 individuals involved)
