Behind the Stadium With You

GLENDALE, CA (YIFTM) – I’m not one to advocate best of or greatest hits albums. Afterall they are for housewives and little girls. But I’d be more than willing to admit to either so long as I get to listen to The Best of Van Morrison.

This 20 track comp shows Mr. Morrison at his absolute best. Spanning from his British Invasion days with Them to his emotion heavy solo years, this album is as strong as anything I’ve heard in years. I’ve been listening to this album for a week straight and its flame has yet to show signs of dying down.

After a $60 trip to Amoeba gobbling up every Van Morrison record they had that I didn’t, I’m thoroughly looking forward to expanding my knowledge of this great artist.

For those who are unfamiliar with Mr. Morrison’s material, I’d STRONGLY suggest starting with The Best of Van Morrison. And those who care enough to listen know that I deeply respect All Music’s rating system. This album received 5 out of 5 stars with an AMG check. That’s the highest rating any album can receive on All Music and that doesn’t even do it justice.

The Very Best of Otis Redding is really good too. Word of caution - don't listen to it w/ Joe & CW in your car because they will make you feel stupid and say things like "is this soooooouuuulllll?" Then they will talk about DJs you have never heard of.

So...is this the album of the week?

AMG is a wee bit liberal w/ their 5 star ratings.

I'll admit some albums receive a higher rating than I'd give, but the one's that I've been getting into lately seem to be spot on.

No, this isn't the album of the week. It should be the album of the weak.

I'll check out some Otis Redding. Thanks for the heads up.

Enjoying your day off?

Eating an extra-cheese Tombstone (Mij style) right now. The Cherry Coke Zero is growing colder by the second in my fridge.

Sounds good man. Enjoy it.

BTW, how many messages do I have to leave in order to receive a call back from you?

The number is 3 now. Is four the magic number?

Let's talk this weekend. Saturday maybe.

Good question.

An even better elusive answer.
